About

Welcome to RVTrouble.com — your go-to resource for simple, clear, and reliable RV troubleshooting advice.

My name is Dan Harvickson, and I created this site to help RV owners fix the most common (and most frustrating) issues without stress. After decades working hands-on in technical service fields — from complex electrical systems to water and heating equipment — I transitioned into RV repair, where I quickly realized something important:
Many common RV problems can be diagnosed without replacing parts unnecessarily — if you know what to check first.
That’s why this website exists.

Why RVTrouble.com?
If you’ve ever tried to solve an RV issue using YouTube videos, half-complete forum threads, or manuals written in another language (or at least it feels like it)… you know how overwhelming it can be.
My goal here is to cut through the confusion and give you:

  • Clear troubleshooting steps
  • Plain-language explanations
  • Real-world solutions based on technician experience
  • Honest advice on what you can fix yourself — and when you really shouldn’t

Whether your RV won’t start, your water pump is acting up, or you’re dealing with electrical issues, RVTrouble.com is built to help you get back on the road quickly and safely.

My Background

I’ve spent most of my adult life working in hands-on technical service and troubleshooting. Much of my earlier career was in the pool and spa industry, where I worked with electrical systems, pumps, plumbing, heating equipment and electronic controls.

I later moved into the RV industry and worked as an RV technician, troubleshooting and repairing many of the same types of electrical, plumbing, heating and mechanical systems found in recreational vehicles. My RV work has also included inspections and pre-delivery inspections (PDIs), where identifying problems before an RV reaches the customer is an important part of the job.

I’ve received manufacturer and industry training covering RV systems and components, including training from companies such as Jayco and Lippert.

That combination of technical troubleshooting experience and hands-on RV work is what I bring to RVTrouble. I try to approach each guide the same way I would approach an RV in front of me: understand the symptom, check the simple possibilities first, and narrow the problem down before replacing parts
